l
Development Alternatives participated in a national workshop titled "Impact of Climate Change on Rural Livelihoods and Poverty Alleviation" organized by the National Institute of Rural Development, Hyderabad from the 10 - 12 August 2010. A paper tilted "Green Social Enterprises in Bundelkhand as a Viable Option for Livelihood Security" was presented by DA at the workshop.

l A half day workshop titled "Low Carbon- Climate Resilient (LC-CR) Development Prospects for India’ was organized by Development Alternatives in collaboration with DFID India on 26th August 2010. Purpose of the objective was to facilitate learning and feedback on the synthesized findings on LC-CR development for India.

l Under the Sustainable Community Development Program, a CSR initiative of ACC in partnership with DA at Wadi township of Gulbarga district in Karnataka under one of its livelihood intervention an energy efficient paver and an MCR tile production unit was set up. The technology and the machine is a product of DA.

l CNN-IBN’s team visited Bundelkhand to know about DA’s water related intervention; observed it very successfully used the local resources for providing clean water to the village community. Telecasted on CNN-IBN’s US channel.

l
Development Alternatives has been selected as the Joint Regional awardee from the Northern Region for the India NGO Award 2009. The award organised by Resource Alliance and the Rockefeller Foundation is on September 17, 2010 at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.

l Preparations for TARAgram Yatra are in full swing, with over 50 speakers confirming their participation. Including Vijay Sharma - Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Forests; Digvijay Singh, General Secretary - All India Congress Committee; B K Sinha - Secretary, Ministry of Rural Development, GoI and Dr T Ramasami - Secretary Ministry of Science and Technology, GoI.

l Development Alternatives in collaboration with HIVOS conducted a three-day workshop on documentation, feedback and case studies for the community reporters of Radio Bundelkhand at TARAgram Orchha from July 11-13, 2010.

l Course on Development Management for Birla Institute of Management Technology.

l Conducted Scholarship examination at TARA Community College.

l Organised Community Awareness Programme on Water and Sanitation at village Pipra.

l Inaugurated a Tailoring centre with PNBRSETI at village Khodan, Datia cluster.

l Conducted Training Needs Assessment at 10 Model villages.

l
TARA Akshar+ set to roll out another validation programme by SRC – Dehradun, supported by MoHRD, Govt. of India under Saakshar Bharat Mission 2010 at Dehradun.

l TARAhaat has launched 5 new combination of IT courses for its franchisee network.

TARA Paper

l The Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi has decided to extend TARA’s involvement as technical support providers for the Handmade Recycled Paper Unit at the Government Secretariat.

l The TARAgram Swashakti Mahila Samuh (women’s group) has made a range of paper products to be presented as gift packs to delegates of the Commonwealth Games.  Jalaj Chatwal has designed products to reflect the "green games" theme.

l The TARA Paper team is gearing up for demand during the TARAgram Yatra and the upcoming festive season.

TARA Technology Transfer

l The first ever VSBK in Bangladesh was inaugurated on August 30, 2010 at the premises of M/S Conforce Limited, Savar, Dhaka. Funded by the World Bank, technical expertise was provided by DA and TARA with support from Skat Consulting, Nepal. Practical Action, Bangladesh anchored the same in Bangladesh

TARA Project Management Services

l TARA providing programme management services to SDC (Swiss agency for Development and Cooperation), and NTPC (National Thermal Power Corporation) in the project RERED (Rural Electrification through Renewable Energy Development). Apart from establishing effective program management systems, TARA is also tackling the technical issues on the ground in making the existing NTPC plants fully functional as soon as possible
